Peebles Community Trust is a not-for-profit development trust with a membership drawn from the local area including Peebles, Manor, Stobo and Lyne; Broughton, Blyth Bridge and Romano Bridge; Lamancha and Eddleston; Cardrona, Innerleithen and Walkerburn.
Peebles Community Trust (PCT)'s mission is for ‘a sustainable Peebles - strengthening and improving the community’s physical, economic, social and cultural infrastructure’.
They progress their aims through a number and growing range of community-led projects, initiatives and partnerships including the Re-Use Hub, School Brae Hub, Eddleston Waterpath, Eshiels Community Woodland and March Street Allotments.
Through a £100,000+ investment, Social Investment Scotland supported Peebles Community Trust in the purchase of a their new premises at the former Bank of Scotland building on Peebles High Street.
The investment:
Has given the already popular Re-Use Hub a prominent high street presence.
Continues and grows PCT’s social, environmental and economic impacts as the Re-Use Hub generates income, keeps goods out of landfill and employs people locally.
Provides additional space for community use and PCT offices. Income generated contributes to local community projects.
Supports community-ownership of a local asset.
Keeps a building, at the heart of the community, in use and contributing to high street vibrancy.
“Having a community presence on the High Street matters and opening the new hub shows that buildings at the heart of our communities don’t have to sit empty. Without the support of Social Investment Scotland at an early stage in the purchasing process, we simply wouldn’t have been in a position to be taken seriously as a buyer. We’re delighted to now be on the high street and have already started welcoming people in.”
